I’m sharing my favorite tips for a better morning because honestly? I hate waking up early in the morning. But once I’m up, awake, and ready, I LOVE the excitement of a new day, and a fresh morning to get things done.
Something that has really changed how my day goes is starting off my morning with purpose and positive intent. It helps start my day off on the right foot and sets the tone for my day. Of course every now and then I may have a rushed morning where I hit snooze more times than I should…because like I said, early mornings are not my gig. But we all have them, so might as well make the best of them, right? So here are my tried and true tips for a better morning. I hope some of these help you too if you’re tired of dreading mornings!
1) Planning a yummy breakfast, coffee, or shake
Okay, so no surprise that food is pretty much the way to my heart and many times convinces me to show up for something. Can you relate? If so, then this will help you as much as it’s helped me. I love to plan a delicious breakfast to look forward to, like peanut butter chocolate chip overnight oats, or a pumpkin bagel with cream cheese. Yep, suddenly I’m already looking forward to waking up at 4:30 AM tomorrow morning. Sometimes I choose my coffee flavor and pick out a mug the night before, or pre pack smoothie ingredients.
2) Reading my devotional
I love the New Morning Mercies devotional. Each day is marked with the date, each devotional is one page, and wow – every one of them is packed with sound, Biblical truths and takeaways. Honestly, a lot of times during my day, especially when things get stressful, I think back to what I read earlier that morning and it truly reshapes my perspective. There are tons of wonderful other devotionals, inspirational books, and journals out there – I highly recommend finding one you love and starting your day with it!
3) Getting One Small Task Done
If you thrive on feeling productive and getting things done, this will do wonders for your mindset. For me, once I get one task done, I’m on to the next, and that momentum just builds on itself. I love to try to get one small thing done at home, and take that energy with me to my next meeting or before I tackle my do to list. It’s usually something very simple, like making my bed or washing a dish.
4) Yoga
Alright y’all, this one is tough. Maybe it won’t be for you, but for me, it is TOUGH. Remember how I said I hate mornings and waking up early? Well, most mornings I am up between 4:30 – 5:30 AM, so the thought of actual exercise at that hour? Yikes. I’m just trying to keep my eyes open and remember what day it is before I have my coffee! But something I have very slowly tried to make a habit is 10 minutes of stretching. And OH. MY. GOODNESS – it is far more powerful than a cup of coffee. It gets my blood flowing, and I feel energized and less groggy. It also gives me time to think about what I’m worried, anxious, or fearful of and go ahead and try to let go of that.
5) My Morning Playlist
Whether I am at home or commuting to work, I have created a playlist of about 10-15 songs that inspire or uplift, and help get my mind in the best mindset before I get to work. The songs I chose have lyrics that I want to intentionally think about at the start of every morning.
I hope some of these tips for a better morning are helpful if you are totally over the rushed, frazzled mornings like I was. It’s taken some time for me to make these habits and I don’t always get these right every day, but they have been steps in the right direction for me. If you have any morning routines that have worked for you, please share below – I’d love to hear them! ?
Best of luck!
