If you’re a bride planning a 2020 wedding, the first thing I want to say is: YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR to be planning a wedding in this climate, navigating all the changes, and all on top of a notoriously stressful experience already. So please, friend, here’s your reminder to give yourself some credit and so much grace if you haven’t already. I want to help you out by giving you a couple of reasons why one of the most important things to look for in a wedding photographer is someone you feel like you connect with and enjoy being around! Here is why:
- You’ll have MUCH better photos: a photographer can have the most amazing gear, the best lighting scenarios, and all the right technical skills – but if they don’t connect with you or make you feel relaxed and comfortable, not only will you remember that, but it will show in your photos – trust me on this one! When you see photos hanging up in your home, you’ll remember how you felt. So friend, I don’t want you to have photos that make you remember how awkward you felt because your photographer didn’t give you much instruction, or there were a lot of long awkward periods of silence, etc. This experience is YOURS, and your vendors (especially your photographer) should be 100% ready to show up and serve you.
- You’ll be more comfortable in front of a camera: let’s be honest, we don’t all LOVE being in front of a camera. Maybe you’re a model and love being in front of the camera, and if that’s you then good for you! But for the rest of us…if you know, you know. We don’t all love it, and that is okay! And our guys? They probably love it less than we do (or if we’re being real, not at all). Having a photographer who makes you feel comfortable is going to be an absolute game changer, especially for your spouse too! You’ll feel more comfortable, and you’ll actually have fun!
- You spend a TON of time with them during your wedding day – the truth is, you’re actually going to spend more time with your wedding photographer during your wedding day than your spouse. I know it sounds crazy, right? But think about it: your photographer will be there while you’re getting ready, while you have your dress zipped up, when your bridesmaids see you in your dress for the first time, etc. Your photographer will be there capturing every single one of these moments, right up until the first time you see your groom! This can be such a wonderful thing, to have someone there encouraging you and cheering for your happiness every step of the way – so make sure you choose someone who you connect with and feels like a friend!
- It will impact your day – if you like your photographer and feel relaxed and comfortable around them, you’re going to enjoy your day so much more. You’ll feel celebrated, loved, and supported – and that feeling is something that you’ll always associate with your wedding day! And who doesn’t want that, right? 🙂
I hope these tips help you out if you’re planning your big day or if you know someone who is! All in all, I want you to remember your day as a true celebration of your marriage beginning, and you deserve to have a team of vendors with your best interest at heart and who adore you and your story! Best of luck! xx
