Blossom Cleveland, Cleveland Florist
I had the pleasure of chatting with Megan, owner of Blossom Cleveland, about all things floral. And her story is even cooler than I had imagined! Megan dreamed about climbing the corporate ladder, wearing a power suit and power heels to work every day, only to realize she kind of hated it. So how did she become a Cleveland florist, and the first flower bar in Cleveland?
Well, because of a hot dog cart of course!
Okay I had to start off that way, because when she told me that, I was like…what? Lol! Megan basically saw a hotdog cart back in 2018, and had a genius idea. She saw a connection between the fun of having a mobile business that allows you be creative and choose what you want. And she applied that to flowers!
In 2019, she opened up her first storefront in Lakewood. It’s the coolest, pink, dream of a shop where you can build your own bouquet! But Blossom is also a full service wedding florist, and today we’re talking about all things wedding floral! So we’re going to talk about which flowers are best for each season, flower ideas for different vibes, and her advice to couples looking for a florist.
(side note, one of her wedding services is bringing the flower bar to YOU on your wedding, so you can build your own bouquet with your bridesmaids! Of course, someone from Blossom will be there to help you!)
Let’s talk about seasons!
Raise your hand if you’re obsessed with peonies too. But there are plenty of other gorgeous flowers out there that make beautiful wedding bouquets! Here are Blossom’s recommendations per season:
Winter
If you’re having a winter wedding, don’t feel like your bouquet is going to be a bunch of dead branches or ‘meh’ flowers. You have some awesome options!
Blossom’s recommendation: roses (available year round), hydrangeas, delphinium, and snap dragons. And if you’re a non traditional bride, dried flowers are a great, locally sourced option too! And if you do have your heart set on peonies, they are possible – but they’re just much smaller that usual. And a lot more expensive in the winter.
Spring & Summer
Of course, Spring is the best time for flowers (except for dahlias!). You’ve got tons of options for gorgeous flowers if your wedding is in the Spring! May and June is the absolute best time of year for peonies. Of course peonies are amazing, but I loved Blossom’s other recommendations.
Blossom’s recommendations: poppies, ranunculus, peonies, roses, anemones are all beautiful for bright bouquets.
Fall
If you’re not a fan ‘bright and colorful’ or ‘bright and white’ vibe, and your prefer something a little more ‘dark and moody’, then Fall will bring you some awesome options!
Blossom’s recommendations: Dahlias (available around August-September), amaranthus, celiosa, darker peonies, and pepperberry.
I also asked Megan what her recommendation is to couples just beginning to look for a florist, and I really loved her response! So here’s her best advice:
- Make sure you get to know your florist and feel like you can trust that person. Your florist is gone before you get there on wedding day, so you need to trust that person!
- Make sure you budget for flowers – flowers are a significant expense and a lot of times it’s a surprise (and not the good kind)
