I had the pleasure of chatting with Christa from Berries and Blooms Studio about all things wedding stationery! We discussed some frequently asked questions about wedding stationery, a little about their business, and what’s coming up next for them!

Here are the wedding stationery questions we covered:

1. What do you think is the biggest mistake couples make when choosing wedding stationery?

Christa mentioned a few mistakes that she sees couples making. The first mistake is not knowing what language to use to clearly communicate to guests the details of their event. This is where having a guide (a stationery expert) to walk you through this process and ensure that you’re clearly communicating to your guests the details of your wedding is so helpful (such as if they can bring a plus one, if kids are welcome, etc). Another mistake mentioned was planning on each guest needing an invitation versus one per household. You can easily overspend here if this isn’t taken into consideration!

2. How do you think wedding signage can be utilized for unplugged ceremonies and communicating that clearly?

There are so many reasons you’ll want to have an unplugged ceremony: ensuring that your guests are present, in the moment, and one of my personal favorites as wedding photographer: NO phones appearing in your wedding photos. The one photo that breaks my heart to see is the moment the bride walks down the aisle, and phones are lining the aisle as she walks. The important thing to keep in mind when communicating an unplugged ceremony is this: the more touchpoints, the better. This is where your stationery designer can help ensure that you’re using the right language to communicate this, and also to ensure that you’re utilizing different touchpoints to communicate that as well.

3. What are your thoughts on ordering one or two invitation suites that are a little more elevated just for detail photos/flatlays?

I am so glad Christa shed some light on this topic! With Berries and Blooms serving design conscious, detail oriented brides who value a cohesive feel to their wedding, and me working with brides who value heirlooms, we know that your invitation suite is a precious heirloom. And for your family members and close friends, it’s something they’ll want to treasure as well. So Berries and Blooms has a custom option that allows a smaller portion of additionally customized suites to be included with your order. That way, your loved ones (parents, grandparents, etc) who you know will be holding on to your wedding stationery can have stationery that’s a little extra special, and your photographer can have a copy as well so they can create beautiful flatlay images for you to treasure in an heirloom album.

4. Timeline: when should you send your save the dates, invites, and how long is ‘too long’ to send your thank you cards?

This can depend heavily on when your wedding is taking place. For example, the norm may be to send save the dates 6 months prior to your wedding, but if it falls on a holiday weekend or a popular time of year (like the Fall for example), you’ll want to send those save the dates out even earlier so that your guests have ample time to plan to attend your wedding. The same applies to invitations as well. As far as thank you cards go, the closer to your event, the better. After 3-6 months, it may be a little too long. Berries and Blooms offers custom design for your thank you cards, so you can be proactive and go ahead and create these before your wedding. Afterwards, you can either include a printed photo for a personalized touch, or they can help you create a design that allows you to simply add one of your wedding photos if you’d really like to include that.
